Good morning, everybody. It's an honor and a pleasure to moderate this session. The first session will be on rising and globalized spaces to enhance both security and diversity. The second session will be on integrating traditional innovation with our work.
I would certainly like to say that having been involved since the inception in the negotiation and implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Disarming Education and Drugs, particularly in Africa, I'm very deeply aware of the importance of the work, the fight for full security, the fight against land degradation and the preservation and valorization of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of African people.
I am pleased to see that all these different dimensions of sustainable development are addressed in the EWA-BELT project. I am very keen to know more about the EWA-BELT findings through your various presentations.
Having said that, we will start with the first session, with the presentation of Dr. Claire Billot. “Promoting sustainable agriculture through neglected and underutilized species: a multi-case study in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
I will briefly present Dr. Claire Billot. She is the director of Agave Institute, in which people from CIRAD, from Inai Institute, Agro, and the University of Montpellier work together to promote crop diversity for different Mediterranean and tropical contexts.
To do so, they model different schemes and partnerships. Her current research area focuses on the relationship between genetic diversity and human practices, with a particular emphasis on neglected crops.
Thank you.
